Delica Sushi

by happymapping June 21, 2010

Delica Sushi is a fancy-pants sushi restaurant in the Ferry Building. More importantly, they have a not-so-fancy-pants happy hour from about 3pm to 6pm on weekdays. Kirin Ichiban is $2.50 on draft and house wine is $5.00 per glass. They also have snacks: Lotus root chips are $3 for a bowl, edamame are $3, and chicken gizzards are $5 for a large bowl. Apparently a popular Japanese bar food, chicken gizzards are like the eating the bad part of a chicken wing, over and over again. I do not recommend, although you can see them pictured below if you’re into that kind of thing. The lotus chips and the edamame are lovely and extra salty, so I’ll stick with those.

Farallon’s 6 Until 7

Farallon is a fancy-pants restaurant in Union Square that just happens to have a happy hour deal that I can afford. Get there before 7pm for their “6 Until 7” deal. For $6 each, you can get fancy-pants snacks like crab cakes and fries, or fancy-pants drinks like glasses of wine or margaritas. The wine they had available was more than decent, and while I didn’t try the snacks, they looked lovely.

Not the cheapest happy hour, but definitely a nice change of pace, and one to check out every once in a while.

Club Delux

So, we recently stopped in here for a cocktail before dinner on a Sunday evening and it turned out they have at least a Sunday happy hour, if not a weekend happy hour. Figured that was worth noting.

However, this place tends to be on the pricey side anyway, so a happy hour deal of $5 drinks isn’t that exciting.  They do have a gin/mint/cucumber drink called the “Spa Collins” that is quite refreshing and makes it worth stopping in every blue moon.

Yokohama Japanese Restaurant

by happymapping March 23, 2010

Because all my preferred happy hours must come equipped with food….

Yokohama offers pretty good Japanese food, but most importantly, buy one House Sake, get the second for $0.25. That’s right, a pitcher of sake for a quarter. I know you’ve been saving your quarters for laundry, but this seems more important. Also, the sign where this special is posted concludes by saying <3 Have Fun! <3

I should also note they have beers for $2.00 all day.

You can pull my trigger on this Saturday Night Special at Trax…

by programradio March 20, 2010

Feel like a warning should proceed this post. Here it is. Wait for it. Warning!!!!

First, this isn’t a traditional happy hour, but it is special by lasting a few hours and second, I can post whatever I want, so step off with your sass, jeez!

Third, this is my favorite bar in the Haight. Fourth, this post is for getting drinks, not getting fancy cocktails or special beers. Just cheap drinks. Good for a cheap pre-party, or a cheap night in the hood (if you happen to live in my hood).

(Pretty sure this website doesn’t exist, at least it doesn’t right now)

Saturday night.
Well drinks (maybe some draft beers?):
9-10: $1.00
10-11: $2.00
11-12: $3.00

What you get: a smallish plastic cup chock full of ice. You see the super nice barman putting that much ice in the cup and you’re like, “What the fuck? I want a giant drink for my damn $1.00!” Then you come to your senses and realize you’re on the verge of being a total douche and keep your stupid mouth shut. Why are you like that sometimes? It’s getting old.

Then you see the barman pour. Damn! That’s a small cup of ice filled with gin with a floater of tonic. Ice cold well gin. “Well, its small, but I got my money’s worth!” you think.

Second warning. Warning!! You just drank over a shot’s worth of almost straight alcohol in about 10 seconds. It is well gin, but you can’t taste it due to the icy coldness. Now you’re thinking, “shit, that was only a dollar, of course I’ll have another!” Repeat and continue, substituting “… only two bucks…” and “… only three bucks…” when appropriate. If you don’t watch yourself, you’ll be super sick and hungover in short order.

Many have fallen prey to this cycle, myself included a time or two. That’s my final warning. I’m not your damn mother.

Great bar, very nice bar tenders, more of a neighborhood bar than a castro sceeny gay bar. Usually fun music, sometimes a live dj playing the jams (80-00s), also fun stuff on the TVs. For example, last time we partook in this special, they were playing John Hughes movies, Pretty in Pink, in particular. Fun.

And look at that, it is sat night as i post this, 2.5 hours till IT’S ON! (maybe)
